Instructional Focus
Reading Comprehension
is the key to...
Understanding what
you have...
HEARD - VIEWED - READ
Through...
SPEAKING - WRITING - REPRESENTING
At
Lendrum we support this instructional focus
through an enriching multi-sensory
educational experience that develops true
understanding of material, no matter its
form -- written, spoken or
physically/visually represented. Our
teachers employ higher level questioning in
discussions and assignments so students
experience a depth in comprehension beyond
the superficial meaning of words on a page.
We challenge our students to demonstrate
their skill in comparing, contrasting,
sequencing, predicting, inferring,
summarizing, and applying their
understanding throughout the curriculum.
School Philosophy
"In pursuit of
excellence and dedication to life-long
learning, Lendrum School encourages high
standards of personal achievement and pride
in success. The child's potential is
enhanced through challenging programming and
meaningful experiences. We believe in a
secure and supportive environment based on
mutual respect, cooperation, and acceptance.
Students will be motivated towards
responsible decision making and independent
learning. This is accomplished through
the partnership of the child, parents,
school and community.
Our Commitment
We are committed to:
- creating a safe and
trusting learning environment where
everyone is treated with courtesy and
respect
- providing programming
that respects and recognizes the various
needs and learning styles of the
students
- challenging each
student to strive for personal
excellence
- integrating students
into regular classes where educationally
appropriate
- enhancing students'
belief in themselves as successful,
independent learners
- providing learning
for the twenty-first century in the
areas of scientific inquiry, research,
problem-solving, and computer
technology.
